Buttercream #

Makes enough buttercream for a 9-inch round 2 layer cake

Ingredients #

  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 Tbsp. heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Equipment Needed #

  • Hand or stand mixer with a paddle attachment

Instructions #

  • Beat the butter on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until creamy.
  • Add confectioners sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt.
  • Add cocoa powder if making chocolate buttercream.
  • Beat on low speed until the sugar is incorporated. And then increase to high speed for 1-3 minutes.

Notes #

  • If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy whipping cream 1 tsp. at a time.
  • If the frosting is too thin, add more confections sugar 1 Tbsp. at a time.
